Benjamin Lai joined Modern Terminals as a marketing manager in 2002. He became general manager operations in July 2005 and general manager Hong Kong in June 2009. In May 2010 he was promoted to managing director Hong Kong, overseeing the Hong Kong business unit. Benjamin took over the managing director position at Da Chan Bay Terminal One in May 2012. In 2013 Da Chan Bay passed the 1-million-TEU milestone. In 2014 Da Chan Bay’s container throughput went up 26% to 1.26 million TEU.

Prior to joining Modern Terminals, Benjamin was director business development of New World CyberBase, the IT arm of the New World Group. Benjamin also spent 6 years working in both the United States and Canada for various IT companies in their business development divisions. Benjamin holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in the United States and an executive MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
