The alleyway quarter [Gängeviertel] and merchant houses, canals [Fleete] and warehouses as well as stories from the past, the Great Fire of 1842 and the cholera epidemic - all that forms part of Hamburg’s development from a settlement to a city with more than a million inhabitants. Discover the many faces of the Hanseatic city and conclude your explorations with a visit to the world’s largest model railway.

Take a leisurely stroll through the city centre and meet the past and the present. From the Inner Alster [Binnenalster] and Jungfernstieg (one of Hamburg’s oldest streets that is now a shopping mile) to City Hall [Rathaus] with its interior courtyard and the cholera fountain, which connects to the stock exchange, and the typical Hanseatic merchant houses you can walk all the way to the New Town and Hamburg’s landmark, the St. Michaelis church, that Hamburgians affectionately call “Michel”.

After the approximately two-hour-long tour, a well-deserved lunch will be waiting for you at a Hamburg-typical location, the uppermost floor of an old warehouse. Thus fortified you will be ready to enjoy a visit to the world’s largest model railway, Hamburg’s miniature world.
